In some cases, you will find part numbers are obvious, in others, not so much. Our part numbering system goes back 40 years to our first printed catalog, evolved when we took Specter Off-Road to the Internet in 1996 and continues to evolve as we add new parts. Back then we supplied part for the FJ40, FJ55 and a few FJ45 pickups. Our catalog was commercially printed and was accompanied by a price list we published bi-annually. For a detailed description, jump to the part number overview...
As Toyota expanded the Land Cruiser Model line in the United States and we expanded our reach to Cruisers found around the world, our inventory grew. Our price list was obsolete the day it was printed. In the late 90's we began to publish prices online and as of the early 2000's the demand for a printed price list no loner existed. In fact, most mail order companies moved online and discontinue printing their product catalogs altogether. Today, we print and bind our catalog in-house and it's updated to match our website as it changes. It's labor intensive, but we find it valuable for elder statesmen that may be out of the digital loop. Product pages of the print catalog match product pages of the website and we offer a PDF (digital copy), free. If you exclusively use our printed catalog, you need to call us or look online for price and availability of any given part which is why we offer the PDF. The PDF copy is bookmarked with a clickable index. Every page is a copy of the printed version and hyperlinked to the corresponding page at sor.com. In combination with our website, it becomes a powerful tool to find the parts you need. If you still can't find the part you need, old-time customers know that we've been taking phone orders long before there was an Internet, so give us a call.
With the advent of the Internet, our inventory became dynamic offering you the best parts at the best price with the ability to confirm its inventory status. When we created our website, we intentionally mirrored the numbering system that began with our first printed catalog. You can use the page number, a partial part number, a complete part number or even a textual description to search for your part at sor.com.
Some might say “too many options”, that’s okay, then give us a call, others say “thank you, I’d rather do it myself”. In the end, we’re old-school with a modern edge. We provide you a variety of ways to find the parts you need and are happy to help when needed.
Part numbers start with the catalog page number on which they are found. If you have a copy of our 500 page printed or PDF catalog, use the number in the upper corner of any page minus any letter associated with the page as the first part of the part number. Then add the number of the part on the page separating the two pieces with a hyphen. Use #012-20 Air Cleaner Assembly as an example. Continue to the part number drill-down for details. By following our formula, you can easily figure out which parts fit your vehicle.

Say you are looking for an air cleaner assembly for your May of 1980 FJ40 with a 2F engine. You find that page 012 starts the air cleaner components section of the catalog. Looking at the assembly drawings, you see that the air cleaner assembly is part #20. So, an Air Cleaner Assembly is 012-20. Note that 2-digit page numbers and 1-digit part numbers have a leading zero (ex. 012-01). In the old days, once you had your initial part number, you'd refine it using the price list; finding 012-20 on the list. You'd find 6 or so different 2F Air Cleaner Assemblies. The one that fits your model and date range is #012-20K fitting 1/79-7/80 2F. Back in the day, you’d call us with that number or send us an order via the postal service. For further clarification, review the part number example below. Now-a-days, you enter that number in the search box at sor.com. To understand how to search our website, Try putting 012, 012-20, 012-20K or “air” in the search box in the upper left corner of any sor.com page and see the different results.
In reality, it’s much simpler when you shop online. You can still use the printed catalog or PDF to leisurely browse for parts and collect your numbers. When it comes time to order you’re even more prepared. You can enter the page number as your search criteria online to view the same page or enter the full part number to get the Fits listing including price and availability of the parts you need. If you don’t have the page or part number, you can search key words such as “air” or even “air cleaner”. From there you can add it to a shopping cart and complete your order.
If you're in doubt or maybe own Frankencruiser and want to double check, give us a call. We're happy to help. We've been taking phone orders for over 40 years, long before the Internet. We can enter your order on the spot confirming fit, stock and price.
